Curly hair types

If you have curly hair, you have heard this many times: “you have pretty hair”. Curly hair types are very unique, they can be of all types, thicknesses, lengths and colours. In addition, you may see a number of different curl patterns on one head. They require more delicate maintenance, since due to their natural form, the oil produced by the sebaceous glands are having a difficult time covering the whole length of the hair strand. Therefore, if you have curly hair, you probably are experiencing dry hair due to low levels of moisture. Also, they are more prone to frizz.

There are various tips and advices that can help you take a good care of your curly hair. But the first thing to do is to know what curly hair types subcategory you fall in. Also, you should know your hair and understand their current state. Are they damaged or healthy, thick or fine, are they prone to frizz? Once you understand their current state, then you can select a hair product that works best for you.

Classification

In hair industry, curly hair types are classified as type 3 hair. This category, like the others is subdivided into 3 subgroups: 3A, 3B and 3C. This subdivision represents the structure of the hair strands and tells you how thick the hair is (fine, medium or thick). 3A curls are the finest and are known to be the easiest type to maintain. This hair type represents very shiny hair with hair strands showing a clear S shape loopy pattern. Type 3B, the curls are tighter, coarser and springier than type 3A. Type 3C is curliest compared to the other two subgroups of curly hair types, and curls are tightly packed together.
